Provincial exams

  • ACT (Alberta Communication Test) Assesses vocabulary, grammar, and spelling
  • APCAT (Alberta Police Cognitive Ability Test) Measures memory, observation, judgment, and problem-solving

Occupational Medical Exams

Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (APREP)

  • Simulates a real-world pursuit and apprehension scenario
  • Completion time: 4 min 45 sec or less
  • Certification valid for 6 months

Personal Interview

  • Conducted by the Chief of Police or designate

Polygraph Exam

  • Confirms integrity and honesty

Psychological Exam

  • Conducted by a licensed psychologist

Security Background Investigation

  • Includes reference checks, credit check, and education verification

Selection Committee Review

  • Final assessment and decision-making

Cadet Training Program

  • In partnership with Edmonton Police Service
  • Emphasizes community-focused policing using the CAPRA model (Clients, Acquiring & Analyzing, Partnerships, Response, Assessment)

Field Training

  • Six months of Field Training with LRPS

EXPERIENCED OFFICERS

If you’re currently or recently employed as a Canadian police officer, you may qualify for our experienced officer program.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 2 years policing experience (including paid recruit training)
  • Current or recent employment with a Canadian police agency (within 1 year)
  • Good standing with no ongoing investigations or discipline
  • Submission of:
  1. Application and Personal Disclosure Form
  2. Two years of performance assessments
  3. In-service training history
  4. Current medical certificate
