What are the General Requirements
- Canadian citizenship
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with an excellent driving record
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level B certification
What are your Character Standards
- Demonstrated moral and ethical behaviour
- No criminal activity in the last 3 years
- No outstanding criminal charges or prosecutions
- No criminal convictions unless a pardon has been obtained
What are your Hearing Standards
- No use of hearing aids
- Minimum hearing threshold of no greater than 20 dB in each ear (averaged at 500 Hz, 2000 Hz, and 3000 Hz)
Do First Nations police officers have the same authority as the RCMP or other police services?
- In December 2020, Alberta moved forward with adopting Bill 38 which recognized Self-Administered First Nation policing formally in the Alberta Police Act. By doing this, we are now recognized as equal to all other Category 1 police services in Alberta.
Minimum Requirements
The Lakeshore Regional Police Service minimum standards for applicants are reflective of Alberta Provincial Policing Standards and the recruitment and training standards of police officers in Alberta.
Character:
- Excellent demonstrated moral and ethical behavior
- Applicant must not have engaged in any detected criminal or other illegal activity within the past three years preceding the date of application
- There are no outstanding criminal charges or other prosecutions against the applicant
- The applicant has not been found guilty (including disposition by discharge) of any criminal offences preceding the date of application
- An applicant with a subsisting criminal record must obtain a pardon before his/her application may be accepted
General:
- Proof of Canadian citizenship
- Valid class 5 driver’s license; excellent driving record
- Strong written and communication skills
- Standard First Aid and CPR B
Education:
- Grade 12 high school diploma or provincial equivalency diploma
Health:
- Physical health: applicants must be in excellent physical health as demonstrated by a letter from their family physician.
- Physical condition: applicants must be in excellent physical condition as demonstrated by their successful completion of the Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation (A-PREP)
Vision:
- Applicants must have a vision report completed by an ophthalmologist or optometrist which follows occupational health and safety minimum vision standards
Hearing:
- Hearing aids are not acceptable
- Minimum hearing threshold must be no greater than 20 db in each ear. averaged at 500 hz, 2000 hz and 3000 hz in each ear
